Choosing manual or automatic
Manual driving lessons teach clutch control, gear selection and coordination as part of the learning process. Passing in a manual car allows you to drive both manual and automatic vehicles, subject to the normal licence rules.
Automatic driving lessons remove the need to operate a clutch and change gears manually. Many learners find this helps them concentrate more fully on observation, planning and decision-making.
An automatic-only licence does not permit you to drive a manual car.
